The number of deaths from drug overdose has risen dramatically in the U.S. in recent years, reaching epidemic proportions, and is now the top cause of accidental deaths. To combat and educate the public on the dangers of drug abuse, whether it is illegal narcotics or prescribed medications, the Benton Police Department is launching the “Nope to Dope” initiative.

At approximately 6:55 p.m. Tuesday, officers with the Benton Police Department responded to 2121 Alcoa Road for a report of multiple shots fired. Officers found a victim with a non-life threatening injury to the leg.

At approximately 2:15 p.m. Saturday, September 17, officers with the Benton Police Department responded to a two vehicle accident at Military and Lincoln. Upon arrival, witnesses said one of the driver’s fled on foot with two juveniles.
At approximately 1:27 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to Walmart on Interstate 30 in reference to a theft that just occurred in which the suspect had fled on foot. Officers located the suspect matching the description inside a bathroom at the nearby Murphy USA.

Representatives of Just Communities of Arkansas (JCA) held a workshop at the Benton Police Department recently about implicit bias/unconscious conditioning in an effort to improve communication between officers and citizens.
