BNPD TO HOST 2017 CITIZEN’S POLICE ACADEMY

Citizens Police Academy 2017 flier SMALLLLLLLLLLLThe 14th annual Citizen’s Police Academy returns to the Benton Police Department. This is an opportunity for people to learn and experience detailed duties of a police officer in a safe, fun environment.

The hands-on Citizen’s Police Academy is designed to give participants a better understanding of police functions and responsibilities. Participants will have the opportunity to join in classes including, but not limited to: criminal investigation, patrol functions, narcotic investigations, school resource, crime prevention, traffic stops, K-9, and the gun range. The classes are designed to be fun and informative.

The classes will take place on six Tuesday nights from 6-9 p.m. beginning on Sept. 26 and one Saturday, to be set at a later date.

Anyone who is interested in attending the fall citizen’s police academy may stop by the Benton Police Department, at 114 S. East St., Suite 100, and fill out an application and release forms.

The only qualifications are that the participant is at least 18 years of age and cannot have a felony conviction on their record. Deadline to turn in applications will be 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22.

This is the 14th year for the citizen’s police academy to be conducted by our department and something we take pride in providing to citizens in the community.  There is no cost associated with attending this class, but seating is limited.
