TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO METH AND FIREARM CHARGES

RobertGranderson1On 5/26/15, at approximately 1:08 PM, an officer with the Benton Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Silica Heights Road for speeding and other traffic infractions.  
 
Upon making contact with the driver, identified as Robert Granderson (35 YOA) of Benton, the officer was informed by Granderson that his license was suspended.  While speaking with Granderson, a pipe commonly used to smoke illegal narcotics was found in Granderson’s possession during the stop along with a loaded firearm (pistol). Subsequent investigation revealed the pistol had been reported stolen out of Little Rock and Granderson was found to be in possession of suspected Methamphetamine.  
 
Granderson was then placed under arrest and transported to the Saline County Detention Facility for processing without incident.  Granderson was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving on Suspended Drivers License, Simultaneous Possession of Drugs and a Firearm, Unsafe Driving, Unauthorized Use of Another Person's Property to Facilitate a Crime, and Theft by Receiving. This is an on-going investigation and additional charges could be forthcoming.
