BNPD OFFICER'S TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO FELONY NARCOTICS ARREST

clayOn 4/4/15, at approximately 9:30 PM, an officer with the Benton Police Department observed a vehicle violate traffic laws and conducted a traffic stop on it near the intersection of Hoover St. and Algood Street.

The officer then made contact with the driver, later identified as David Lane (29 YOA) of Benton.  While speaking with Lane, he appeared to be very erratic in his behavior and mannerisms.  Subsequent investigation revealed two plastic baggies containing suspected marijuana in one and methamphetamine in the other.  A glass pipe commonly used to ingest illegal narcotics and a set of digital scales were also discovered during the incident.

Lane was placed under arrest and transported to the Saline County Sheriff's Office for processing without incident.  Lane was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Felony-Methamphetamine), Possession of a Controlled Substance (Misdemeanor-Marijuana), and 2 counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  This is an on-going investigation and more charges could be possible.
