The two suspects, Michael Dickson (34 YOA) and Wesley Harris (22 YOA), related to the commercial burglary and officer involved shooting incident that took place on 2/10/14 are now facing additional charges.

On 2/10/14, at approximately 7:00 AM, officers with the Benton Police Department were dispatched to Dogwood Lakes Apartments (1907 Hwy 5 N) on report of an armed robbery. Upon arrival, they made contact with the victim in the case who advised officers that two suspects had robbed her at gunpoint and fled the area.
On 2/10/14, at approximately 3:52 AM, two officers with the Benton Police Department observed suspicious activity at the hotel construction site located adjacent to the Benton Events Center (17324 I-30).

On 2/4/14, Benton Police officers took a report of fraudulent use of a credit card at several businesses. Contact was made with the victim who reported his debit card had been stolen and used at various businesses in Benton. The case was then assigned to detectives for followup investigation into the incidents.

The Benton Police Department is pleased to pass along that the overall crime rate in the city has gone down by 7.14%. This is based on information reported as part of the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) comparing crime data from 2013 to 2012.
