HIT-AND-RUN SUSPECT ALLEGEDLY THREW BAG WITH MULTIPLE PILL BOTTLES FROM VEHICLE

Jones William GuyAt approximately 9:22 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, officers with the Benton Police Department responded to the I-30 south service road and Congo Overpass after receiving reports of a hit-and-run accident in the Benton Walmart parking lot. A vehicle matching the description merged onto I-30.

During a traffic stop, officers noted the driver partially opened the driver’s side door, dropped a white plastic bag and then ran over the plastic bag. The vehicle then reportedly stopped between 100-200 yards later. The plastic bag was later found and contained numerous pills including: 12 suspected Diazepam, 8 suspected Alprazolam, 39 suspected Oxycodone, 1 suspected Hydrocodone, and 2 suspected Oxymorphone pills.

The driver, identified as 28-year-old William Guy Jones of Cabot, denied being involved in a vehicle accident and told officers the damage to the front of the vehicle was “old.” Two juveniles were also located inside the vehicle driven by Jones.

Jones was taken into custody and transported to the Saline County Detention Center. He faces charges of Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance, class B felony; three counts of Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance, class D felony; two counts of Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance, class A misdemeanor; Possession of a Schedule I or Schedule II Controlled Substance that is not Methamphetamine or Cocaine with the Purpose to Deliver, class B felony; Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Property Damage; and No Child Restraint.
