BNPD INVESTIGATING CALL ABOUT A CHILD BEING BURNED BY AN UNKNOWN SUBSTANCE

IMG 5882On 3/25/15, at approximately 9:49 PM, officers with the Benton Police Department responded to Saline Memorial Hospital on report of a child being burned at a local park.

Officers made contact with a parent who reported their 17 month old child had been burned by an unknown substance while playing at Tyndall Park at approximately 7:00 PM.  They indicated the child picked up a bottle near the corner of Border St. and Hoover St. that contained a red liquid, which spilt on the child's arm. They noticed approximately an hour and half later that it had blistered up so they went to the hospital for treatment.

Officer went to the park where they located a clear plastic bottle that contained a small amount of red liquid.  The bottle was transported to the hospital where it was tested and determined that it was an acid of some type.

Although there is nothing to suggest this was done intentionally, it is still an on-going investigation at this time.  We urge everyone to please use caution if they observe anything similar in nature and to not touch it.  If they are in doubt about an object, contact the police department to be safe about it.
