  The Benton Police Department will be conducting a month-long traffic enforcement blitz during the month of February.  The focus of this program will be conducting traffic enforcement in high traffic areas with a special emphasis on DWI/DUI enforcement.

    The added enforcement action is being taken with the goal of raising awareness about the dangers of breaking traffic laws and ultimately saving lives.  With this being Super Bowl weekend the emphasis on DWI/DUI enforcement is paramount since it statistically has one of the highest rates of offenders for drunk driving.

Some idea you might want to consider before leaving out this weekend to watch the game are:

*Plan a safe way home before the festivities begin;
*Before drinking, designate a sober driver and leave your car keys at home;
*If you’re impaired, use a taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation;
*If you happen to see a drunk driver on the road, don’t hesitate to contact your local law enforcement; and
*And remember, if you drive drunk you will be caught. If you know someone who is about to drive or ride while impaired, take that person’s keys     and help him or her make other arrangements to get home safely.
