On Tuesday, December 13th, law enforcement officers from Saline County will participate in the Shop with a Cop program at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Benton.  This program was started in 1998 by the Saline County Chaplains Association in conjunction with the Alexander, Bauxite, Benton, Bryant, Haskell, and Shannon Hills Police Departments, and the Saline County Sheriff’s Office.

Forty children will be given money to shop for members of their families in addition to buying gifts for themselves.  The money for this program is donated every year from local businesses and civic groups from throughout the area.  It’s designed to help provide gifts to children who would otherwise not have anything for Christmas and it also provides a way for them to help purchase gifts for a family member or friend in need.

The program kicks at 6:00 PM on the 13th and anyone with questions about the program are encouraged to contact the Benton Police Department at 776-5948.
