The Benton Police Department is currently seeking individuals who are responsible for various property crimes that have taken place within the past week.

One incident took place on 10/23/11, at approximately 9:32 PM, where the homeowners reported that a subject(s) kicked in the back door to their residence.  They reported hearing a loud crashing noise and their home alarm system went off.  A suspect wasn’t located in the area, but evidence was collected from the scene.

The second incident took place on 10/24/11, at approximately 11:59 AM, where the homeowner was walking through her home when she discovered two white males attempting to enter her home.  She ran for help and when officers arrived they were unable to locate them.  They were described as both being approximately 5’ 10” to 6’ tall, approximately 20 YOA, wearing hooded jackets, baseball caps, and sunglasses.

In addition to these two incidents there have been 29 Breaking and Entering cases reported in the past week.  These cases involved RV’s and motor vehicles parked at businesses and residences.  A majority of the vehicles were left unlocked in these incidents.

Detectives are diligently working on these cases to catch those responsible.  They are actively working leads in the cases and expect arrests to be forthcoming in the near future.

We want to stress the importance of locking the doors on your vehicles at all times, whether you’re at home or at work.  Don’t leave valuable items (laptop, wallet, etc.) in your car, or at the very least don’t leave them in plain view where criminals can see them.  Also, it’s important to keep your doors locked at home and use your alarm system if you have one.

The importance of making sure you look out for your neighbor is paramount in these situations.  We are strongly encouraging anyone who witnesses anything suspicious or out of the ordinary to please call the police department.  If you are in doubt whether you should dial 911 then please err on the safe side and dial it.  If you have other information to pass along you may also reach the police department dispatch at 778-1171 or leave a tip at 315-TIPS.
