Benton Police Arrest Suspect for 1st Degree Battery on a Child Print

HandcuffsDetectives with the Benton Police Department have arrested Christopher Jones (W/M, 22 YOA) for 1st Degree Battery (Class Y Felony).  The state Child Abuse Hotline notified officers about an incident involving Jones and a young juvenile possibly being abused.

The incident took place at 324 S. 4th Street in Benton at approximately 1:00 PM on 3/29/11.  The case involves Jones allegedly shaking a small infant and causing extreme trauma to the child.  The child is now in intensive care at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Jones is currently being held at the Saline County Detention Facility in lieu of a half million dollar bond.
