Benton Police Department Receives Grant for Evidence Collection Tool Print
Tuesday, 29 March 2011 08:19

Recently, the Benton Police Department received a Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) grant.  The grant is a matching grant with the city paying $2,108 and the grant paying $6,325 towards the purchase of an AirClean System Cyanoacrylate Filtered Fuming System.

The Cyanoacrylate Filtered Fuming System will give officers up to date technology for latent fingerprint processing of crimes.  The new fuming chamber will allow officers to better process the evidence they collect at crime scenes and submit better latent fingerprint evidence to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for analysis.  This has the potential to help speed up the processing time by only requiring the crime lab to process the latent prints instead of having to process the entire item and then compare prints.

The fuming chamber was delivered to the police department on 3/23/11 and installed in the Criminal Investigative Division.  All officers in the department will be attending a training session on the fuming chamber that is approved through the office of Arkansas Minimum Standards for Law Enforcement, in the near future.
