The Benton Police Department is currently investigating a large number of home/business burglaries and vehicle break-ins. There have been 65 burglaries and 58 thefts from vehicles since Nov. 1st, 2010.
Officers recently apprehended two suspects in December who were responsible for some of the incidents, but we have experienced more since then. On the morning of January 3rd a home owner noticed two suspects in their storage shed, but the suspects fled the area prior to officer’s arrival. The importance of making sure you look out for your neighbor is paramount in these situations. We are strongly encouraging anyone who witnesses anything suspicious or out of the ordinary to please call the police department. If you are in doubt whether you should dial 911 then please err on the safe side and dial it. If you have other information to pass along you may also reach the police department dispatch at 778-1171 or leave a tip at 315-TIPS. Neighborhood Watch groups are very instrumental when crimes like this occur. A neighborhood watch group watches out for their neighbors, reports anything suspicious, and coordinates anti-criminal activities such as walking patrols. If you’re interested in learning more about forming a neighborhood watch program in your area please contact Sgt. Justin Tittle or Lt. Kevin Russell at 776-5948.
