Benton Police Arrest Suspect in Murder Case Print

Officers with the Benton Police Department responded to 1205 Thelma St. earlier this date on report of a stabbing.  Upon arrival officers found the victim, Nicklaus Latting (27 YOA, B/M), injured inside the residence. 

 

    Mr. Latting was transported to Saline Memorial Hospital for treatment related to apparent stab wounds.  He was later pronounced dead from injuries he had sustained.  The suspect, Andrew L. Hampton (43 YOA, B/M), was apprehended shortly after the incident by our officers. 

    Mr. Hampton is charged with 1st Degree Murder (Y-Felony), 2 counts of Rape (Y-Felony), Criminal Attempt to Commit Rape (A-Felony), and 1st Degree Terroristic Threatening (D-Felony).   The Rape charges stem from an incident involving Mr. Hampton and a juvenile. 

    Mr. Hampton was transported to the Saline County Detention Facility for processing.  Detectives are actively working leads on this case and anyone with any additional information regarding it is encouraged to contact the Benton Police Department at 778-1171 or 315-TIPS.
