A number of sex offenders are off the streets in Saline County.  Benton and Bryant police joined US Marshals and sheriff's deputies in conducting “Operation Watchdog” recently.  Officers wanted to verify the 115 Saline County sex offenders are where they are supposed to be and following their rules for release.

After searching for offenders the investigators then began to alert the public.  Also during the round up investigators visited area day care centers and schools. Officers want to know if they've seen any suspicious people snooping around.

Officers say they won't stop making contact with actual sex offenders until they verify their information on file or arrest warrants are issued for those in violation.  Over the two day operation investigators made 10 arrests.  The majority of those were for sex offenders who violated the terms and conditions of their release.

The Benton and Bryant Police Departments, and the Saline County Sheriff's office say they will continue doing random round-ups like this one to make sure sex offenders comply with their release conditions.  When officers are unable to verify an offender's address, they will issue a warrant for the offender's arrest.
