The Benton Police Department arrested Todd McGuire (DOB: 7-16-86) on December 14th for residential burglary, criminal mischief, and use of another person’s property to facilitate a crime.

At approximately 10:44 AM on December 14th, officers responded to a report of a suspicious subject outside of a residence located at 1624 Lynwood Drive.  Upon their arrival they made contact with Mr. McGuire at the rear of the residence rattling and pushing on the door.  During the course of the investigation officers found evidence that lead to Mr. McGuire’s arrest for breaking into the residence.

On the same date as this incident there were two other residential burglaries that occurred in Benton.   These are not believed to be related to the case involving Mr. McGuire since they occurred after his arrest.  There were also two other residential burglaries in the city within the past month and detectives are working diligently on solving these crimes and determining whether they are related.

The arrest of Todd McGuire was possible because a concerned citizen noticed that something was suspicious and called the police department.  It is the time of year when people are even more desperate than usual and we see a rise in daytime burglaries.  The importance of a neighborhood watch program can be witnessed here, because when you watch out for each other you can help us stop crime in its tracks.

If you see something suspicious you are encouraged to call the Benton Police Department at 778-1171 or 911.  If there is any doubt whether to dial 911 it is better to err on the side of safety and dial it.  If you have any information regarding these cases you are encouraged to contact the Benton Police department tip line at 315-TIPS.
