SUSPECT ARRESTED IN ARMED ROBBERY INCIDENT

WalterWilkerson1Detectives with the Benton Police Department have made an arrest in relation to the recent armed robbery of the Home Run Gas Mart (1415 Military Rd.) that occurred on 1/26/14.  The suspect in the case, Walter Wilkerson (23 YOA) of Benton, was taken into custody on 1/30/14 without incident.  
 
Based on information and evidence obtained during their investigation, detectives were able to determine that Wilkerson was a suspect in the case.  He is charged with Aggravated Robbery, Theft of Property, Aggravated Assault, and Tampering with Evidence.  
 
This is still an on-going investigation and additional charges could be forthcoming in the future.

On 1/26/14, at approximately 10:37 PM, officers responded to the Home Run Gas Mart (1415 Military Rd.) on report of an aggravated robbery that had just occurred.  Upon their arrival, they made contact with the clerk who informed them they had just been robbed at gun point.  
 
The clerk said the suspect came into the store and pointed a handgun at him and demanded money.  After taking the money, the suspect fled the store on foot towards the area of Jameson Drive.  There was an undisclosed amount of money that was taken during the robbery.  
 
The clerk described the robbery suspect as being a light-skinned black male, shorter than average, and with a scar on his forehead.  At the time of the robbery the suspect was wearing a hooded black jacket with green under the arms, a ‘rebel’ flag bandana covering part of his face, and dark colored pants.  
 
Detectives are diligently working leads in the case at this time. Anybody that might have observed anything suspicious near the store, or in the area of Jameson Dr. or Crystal Drive, is encouraged to contact the Benton Police Department at 501-778-1171 or 501-315-TIPS.
