The Benton Police Department’s website, www.bentonpolice.org, now has a brand new look. It was decided the website needed revamping to give it an updated and professional image that would make it easier for people to utilize for up to date information and helpful links. The website now has a mobile ready feature integrated that detects if you’re using a tablet computer or smartphone. This means that it will automatically reformat the web pages to fit your device screen and works with both Apple and Android based platforms.
To help save on costs, two members of the department attended training on web design within the past year. This gave them the basis for designing the department’s new website and provided information that will allow the interdepartmental maintenance of it. By doing this, it allowed the site to be designed and maintained at 1/3 of the cost when compared to using an outside company.
The website was designed with the community in mind because we feel that by sharing information it empowers people to take stock in their city and neighborhoods. One key feature we added to the site was the new sex offender locator map. The locator allows you to search a Google map to find sex offenders living near you and it provides pictures and fact sheets about their crimes.
We feel that it’s our mission to provide a factual and professional image to the community on a broad range of venues so we can further connect with them. Along with the website, we utilize other technological avenues to reach people including Facebook, Twitter, and You Tube. In the coming months we will be exploring additional technological possibilities in furtherance of this goal.
