SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER ALLEGEDLY SETTING A FIRE, POINTING GUN AT WIFE

Givens che 45A Benton man was arrested after allegedly pointing a gun at his wife and later setting fire to their home. At approximately 4 p.m. Feb. 12, officers responded to 1311 Shirewood Court for an aggravated assault and arson.

Victims told officers that a man was inside the home with a weapon, and officers noticed smoke coming from the garage and front door, and the smoke alarm was sounding. Che Throne Givens, 45, of Benton was reportedly noticed inside the home and later exited unarmed. Givens told officers that he put out the fire in the home, the report said.

The victim said that during an argument, Givens retrieved and pointed a shotgun at her head in front of a juvenile. The victim said after Givens went back into the home, she ran across the street with the juvenile and another person where they called 911. The victim said Givens later came out of the home and they noticed smoke and heard the smoke detector alarming.

Officers retrieved a 12-gauge shotgun and ammunition from the home and placed Givens into custody. Officers said Givens refused to give any information about the incident. Givens was taken to the Saline County Detention Center and faces charges of felony Aggravated Assault on a Family or Household Member and felony Arson.
