TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO FELONY DRUG AND FIREARM CHARGES FOR TWO

On 10/8/15, at approximately 11:00 PM, an officer with the Benton Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on I-30 near the Alcoa Road overpass.  
 
The officer made contact with the driver of the vehicle, who was identified as Jesus Carbajal (21 YOA), and a passenger, Frank Hernandez (31 YOA). During the stop the officer found 5.3 oz. of suspected Methamphetamine wrapped in plastic inside the vehicle.  Subsequent investigation also revealed that a loaded firearm was inside the vehicle.  
 
Both Carbajal and Hernandez were placed under arrest without incident and transported to the Saline County Detention Facility.  They are both charged with Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver and Simultaneous Possession of Drugs and a Firearm.  This is an on-going investigation and additional charges could be possible.
